All-Nighter and the Worst Haircut Ever

I think the date in my last entry was slightly wrong, since I spent only three days in Copenhagen. I think it was really the 17th, but I don't know for certain!

I have now been in Europe for well over a month, and my time is winding down.  I have most of the remainder planned out, which is nice, but first, a summary of what happened in Copenhagen:

In my last entry, I mentioned that I went biking, which I did for almost the entire day.  Pat, a guy from San Francisco, and I biked around town for roughly six hours.  There were not too many highlights, apart from a great series of lakes in Copenhagen with a path running around them.  We rode rented, rather battered bikes that cost 20 kroner each, or about three euros.  You insert a coin, release a bike, and off you go.  It took us an hour and a half to find two of them, but once we did, we biked all over the city.  We went to Christiania, also known as Freetown Christiania.  It felt like a smaller, less regulated Amsterdam.  Cannabis was openly available, and the police generally stayed out; an attempt to enter had reportedly sparked a riot.  It was an interesting place.  We then rode back and borrowed hair clippers from a woman at a restaurant called Govinda's whom I had mentioned in my last entry.  That night, we spent about two hours shaving my head because the clippers were not very good, then shaved Pat's head completely smooth.  Quite an adventure.  I met Hilary from Portland and Sarah from Minnesota, both of whom enter the haircut story.  My head was shaved with a No. 2 guard, except the back was not fully trimmed.  I was the only one who had shaved a head before, so nobody else really knew what to do.  A French guy tidied the back a little, but it still needed more work.  I told Sarah about the time Molly had trimmed the back of my hair almost up to my ears, and Sarah said she could not possibly do that.  I handed her the clippers and, zzzzz, she cut a line all the way to the top of my head.  I could hardly believe it.  I had joked that Molly's earlier effort had ruined my dating prospects for a month, so when I felt this new line, I said, "There go my dating prospects for another month."  Hilary laughed from inside the shower, while Pat came out, saw it, and started laughing too.  We simply buzzed my head with a No. 1 guard, which is very close.  Good times.  Lizz would love my hair.  I wrote a few emails that night, returned to the hostel, played cards with the three of them for a while, and went to bed.  I woke at noon the next day and, after eating and taking a shower, went to the internet cafe and played games for a while.  I looked around town a little more, then went to bed.  At the internet cafe, I managed to contact Maria and Kerstin, friends I had met on Ios.  When they heard that I was coming to Sweden, they insisted that I visit, so I made plans to meet them.  This morning, I checked out of the hostel and returned to the internet cafe, where I played more games and met another guest who also played BF1942.  We played a few rounds together; I won early, but he caught up eventually.  I then returned to the hostel to collect my belongings and catch the train.  I had lost track of the time, but I jumped on a bus and reached the station just in time.  I am now on the X2000, a high-speed train to Stockholm, followed by another train to Falun, where they live. Hurrah!
