The Palace Museum, ranked as one of the five best museums in the world, has just finished renovation. Since we live in Taipei, there wasn't an excuse in the world why Yan-Shih and I shouldn't see the exhibition.
From start to finish, the entire experience is marked by the feeling of awe. The Palace Museum itself is spledid enough to make the bus ride worthwhile. However, the true gem is what is inside.
For those of you whom don't know the history, I will illuminate you with a summary. During the time the Communist party was taking power in China, another party, KMT, was quickly making a departure. Indeed, the history for me seems shrowded in propoganda, as both sides have their own version of who defeated/fought the Japanese, and who actually overthrew the last dynasty. Anyway, the military leader Chiang Kai Shek brought his army to Taiwan, and they brought with them anything valuable. Included are the items in the Palace Museum, streching some 5,000 years into the history of China.
What do the exhibits look like? Good question, and I'll show you. Initially I started snapping photos away without concern (never with a flash, of course). This continued until I saw little people carrying signs saying "NO PHOTOS." Oops. Oh well, the deed was done. Enjoy.
