Easter Weekend

Published on April 13, 2009 in Australia

We're just wrapping up a great four day weekend down here in Australia - hmm, four days. Yan-Shih and I had an eventful few days.

Day 1 - Thursday night we went up to the Blue Mountains and stayed with a few friends. I've always enjoyed going up there - it reminds me how much I like mountain terrain. We meandered back down to Sydney on Friday and started contemplating what to do with the rest of the weekend.

Day 2 - Saturday we woke up early and drove to the local supermarket, bought some food for the week (the markets would be closed on Friday and Sunday), and drove back home. Quickly after arriving home we turned the car around and headed out to Kangaroo Valley, about two hours South of our house. The drive was quite lovely, and traffic was light. We arrived at the campsite and were stunned by how large it was - there could be several thousand campers there. After driving around and locating the ideal spot, so we thought, we tossed out the tend and setup camp. There wasn't that much to do but wander around, so we cooked dinner, read some, and played lots of cards. Soon we started to go to sleep, except our neighbors had other plans. They weren't teenagers, I found out in the morning, but they exhibited the actions of 16 year olds. Until maybe 1:00am they were playing brutally loud music, and not calm music either. While I generally liked their taste in music - Nirvana, etc. - I don't like it when trying to go to sleep. Maybe I'm getting old...

Just before bed, and before the music, we noticed a creature crawling in the background: a wombat! We would have liked to have one near our tent, but seeing one in the background was good enough.

Day 3 - After waking up and cooking breakfast on my tiny stove we headed off to the coast, drove some of the touristic trails, and came back to Sydney. Overall, Kangaroo Valley was a great camping trip, and you can expect more camping in the near future!

Day 4 - We didn't do too much today, but it was still highly enjoyable. We woke up late, and went shopping at Westfield - only two thinks were important: 1) a bench to put my computer stuff, 2) a power plug converter. We found the bench in the Reject Shop, but alas, the converter was $20. Opted to just look online if I couldn't live without it. We also read at Border's for a while - I continued flipping through my Processing book, which is an exciting read. If you see some doodles here in the future, you'll know how I did them! After coming home we cooked curry and I put together my new "server rack."
